Georgiában járunk, az amerikai határvidéken, ahol nem ritka, hogy a családok egymástól távoli farmokon laknak, a saját elszigetelt életterükön. Ilyen család a Chenoweth család is, apa, anya, gyerekek, anyós, lovak, körülöttük sűrű erdő, a civilizációt csupán a szomszédok jelentik. Aztán az egyik éjszaka elkezdenek elszaporodni a furcsa és bizarr események. A család kisebbik gyereke, Arlo eltűnik az erdőben, hogy aztán megkerüljön, de a fiú nem önmaga. A villany elmegy, egy titokzatos gázmaszkos idegen határfestéket fúj a farm köré figyelmeztető körnek, amiből Chenoweth-ék és szomszédaik nem léphetnek ki. Mert akkor meghalnak...
