A sorozat a hidegháború csúcspontján játszódik, és egy hetet mutat be Victor Godeanu kitalált szereplő életéből, aki Nicolae Ceausescu román diktátor jobbkeze és legközelebbi tanácsadója. Godeanu azonban a KGB titkos ügynöke is, és el kell menekülnie Romániából mielőtt lelepleződik. Mivel csak egy esélye van az életben maradásra, egy németországi diplomáciai utat használ fel ugródeszkaként az Egyesült Államokba. Egy beépített Stasi-ügynök és egykori szerelme, valamint egy feltörekvő CIA-ügynök segítségével Godeanunak el kell kerülnie a KGB-t és saját országa kémeit, miközben tisztában van azzal, hogy szökése halálos veszélybe sodorja otthoni családját.
