He has played the superhero Scott Lang / Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), from Ant-Man (2015) to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and Gary Grooberson in the Ghostbusters films Afterlife (2021) and Frozen Empire (2024). Rudd has also appeared on numerous television shows, including the sitcom Friends (2002–2004) as Mike Hannigan, and has been featured as a guest host of Saturday Night Live multiple times. He had a dual role in the comedy series Living with Yourself (2019), which earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination. He starred in the miniseries The Shrink Next Door (2021) and featured in the Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building (2023–2024), earning him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

She was formerly married to the actor Alan Rosenberg. She appeared in the short-lived series The Powers That Be and had a recurring role as Debbie Buchman (the sister of Paul Reiser's character) in the series Mad About You. She has played a teacher at least twice – as Mrs. Elliott in 1989's Lean on Me, then again as French teacher Mrs. Grober in the 1991 film If Looks Could Kill – Teen Agent. Starting this fall, she will be appearing as Hannah Pitt in Signature Theatre Company's 20th anniversary production of Tony Kushner's Angels in America.   Played Bridget Kearns in Shutter Island in 2010.
