Flynn is the lead singer and songwriter of the band Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit. He has released six studio albums and two live albums. He has also composed music for stage, screen, and radio.

At Oxford, she appeared in student productions of The Importance of Being Earnest, Animal Crackers (which toured to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and Scenes from an Execution.
