Mark Gatiss (/ˈɡeɪtɪs/; born 17 October 1966) is an English actor, comedian, screenwriter, director, producer and novelist. He is best known for his work on television, acting in and co-creating shows with Steven Moffat. Gatiss has received several awards, including a BAFTA TV Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Peabody Award, and two Laurence Olivier Awards. Gatiss co-created, co-wrote and acted in the BBC comedy series The League of Gentlemen (1999–2002). He co-created and portrayed Mycroft Holmes in the BBC series Sherlock (2010–2017) and Frank Renfield in the BBC / Netflix miniseries Dracula (2020). He also wrote several episodes of Doctor Who during Moffat's tenure as showrunner and two episodes during Russell T Davies' earlier tenure. His other TV roles include Tycho Nestoris in Game of Thrones (2014–2017), Stephen Gardiner in Wolf Hall (2015), and Peter Mandelson in Coalition (2015). He has acted in films such as Victor Frankenstein (2015), Denial (2016), Christopher Robin (2018), The Favourite (2018), The Father (2020), Operation Mincemeat (2021), and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023). On stage, Gatiss played Menenius in the revival of William Shakespeare's Coriolanus (2013), for which he earned a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role nomination. He took on the role of King George III in a revival of the Alan Bennett play The Madness of George III (2018). He portrayed Sir John Gielgud in the Jack Thorne play The Motive and the Cue (2023), for which he earned the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor. His other theatre roles include The Recruiting Officer (2012), The Vote (2015), and A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story (2021). Steve Pemberton is a BAFTA winning actor and writer born in Blackburn, UK. He graduated from Bretton Hall in Yorkshire with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Arts in 1989. After leaving college Steve spent time producing and starring in small-scale theatre productions in London and working part-time for Variety as assistant editor of the International Film Guide. In 1996 Steve and his college friends Mark Gatiss, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson went to Edinburgh with comedy show The League of Gentlemen, winning the coveted Perrier Comedy prize a year later. The group then went on to record a radio series and four TV series for the BBC as well as staging three live tours and making a film. In 2009 Steve and Reece wrote and starred in the multi-award winning black comedy Psychoville which ran for two series and a Halloween special. The pair's acclaimed anthology show Inside No 9 began in 2014 and Steve was awarded with a BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance in 2019. The show also won BAFTAs for Scripted Comedy and Comedy Writing. Steve lives in North London with his partner and three children.

Reeson Wayne Shearsmith (born 27 August 1969) is a British actor, comedian, writer and magician. He was a member of The League of Gentlemen, with Steve Pemberton, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson. Jointly with Pemberton, he created, wrote and starred in the sitcom Psychoville and the dark comedy anthology series Inside No. 9. He had notable roles in Spaced and The World's End. Shearsmith was born in Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. He attended Andrew Marvell High School and then Bretton Hall College of Education, where he met Mark Gatiss and Steve Pemberton, fellow actors and comedians The League of Gentlemen began as a stage act in 1995, transferred to Radio 4 as On the Town with The League of Gentlemen in 1997, and arrived on television on BBC Two in 1999. The last saw Shearsmith and his colleagues awarded a British Academy Television Award, a Royal Television Society Award and the prestigious Golden Rose of Montreux. Following The League of Gentlemen, Shearsmith appeared in comedy programmes including Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere as well as playing villain Tony in the Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer comedy Catterick. He appeared in two episodes of the award-winning pop-culture comedy Spaced as Robot Wars-obsessed TA soldier Dexter, and played neurotic Doctor Flynn in hospital sitcom TLC alongside Alexander Armstrong. In 2014, Shearsmith and Pemberton returned to BBC2 with a new dark comedy series called Inside No. 9. Each episode of the anthology series takes place in a different 'No. 9' location. Shearsmith and Pemberton play various characters in the series and have also directed two of the episodes.[16] Also in 2014, he starred as Malcolm Webster in ITV drama series, based on a true story, The Widower.

Johnny Leeze is a British television actor best known for playing Ned Glover in Emmerdale from 1994 to 2000 and Harry Clayton in Coronation Street in 1985. He made his debut in 1982 with a small part in Roy Clarke's sitcom Open All Hours. He worked with Clarke again, appearing in Last of the Summer Wine on four occasions in 1983, 1986, 1991 and 2002. He played Inspector Cox in The League of Gentlemen, Duffy Hayes in Phoenix Nights and Bill Cooper in Early Doors. He has also starred in Common as Muck, Heartbeat and its spin off series The Royal, All Creatures Great and Small, Cracker and Life On Mars. His one and only film appearance was as a journalist in the comedy Blow Dry. His real name is John Glen, but he adopted the stage name Johnny Leeze to avoid confusion with other people in the business called John Glen, including the director of several James Bond films. He was married to Carol, the mother of his two children; Nicola and Holly, for fourteen years from 1969 to 1983 but now lives alone in Cleethorpes.

Jeremy Dyson (born 14 June 1966) is a British author, musician and screenwriter who, along with Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, is one of the League of Gentlemen. He also created and co-wrote the West End show Ghost Stories and its film adaptation.
