He is best known for his starring role as Ichabod Crane on the Fox series Sleepy Hollow, and he portrayed the clones of Mr. Phillips and the Game Warden in Watchmen. He has had leading and supporting roles in a variety of British theatre, television, and radio productions, as well as independent and mainstream studio films and film shorts. He is also known for his work in the European premiere of Andrew Bovell's When the Rain Stops Falling at the Almeida Theatre, Posh at the Royal Court Theatre and the Duke of York's Theatre, and Prince Hal in Henry IV Parts 1 and 2. He played Fainall in the Donmar Warehouse's 2018 production of William Congreve's The Way of the World. His writing for the stage includes Wood, Bounded, and The Life Man of Portland Mews. She is best known for the role of Sonya on The CW's Nikita and was recently cast in the recurring role of Jenny Mills on FOX's Sleepy Hollow.Greenwood was born and raised in Toronto. She studied dance in school and is also well-versed in martial arts.She attended several voice and musical theater schools in Canada. She began acting training at multiple schools including the "Professional Actors Lab", "Jason Fraser Studios", "Etobicoke School of the Arts" and also at "University Settlement Drama Group". She attained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto in 2006. Her first role onscreen was in a low-budget Canadian movie called Pinkville. She made her first television debut on an episode of The Listener. She made many guest appearances on television such as Rookie Blue, Flashpoint, Being Erica, Covert Affairs, Lost Girl and Saving Hope. She has also appeared in minor roles in short-movies such as Little Phoenix and the Fists of Fury and as Jen in The Exit which she feels was her favourite role. She was also cast in This Movie Is Broken. Her career took off in 2011 when she was cast in a recurring role as Sonya on the hit CW's, Nikita. After the success of season 2 of Nikita, she was retained for season 3 and season 4. In August 2013, she was cast in a recurring role on FOX's, Sleepy Hollow.

Melvin landed her first acting job in the 2005 independent film Boo. She later won the role of Georgia LaMarque, a French girl whom Bo and Billie had been falsely led to believe was their daughter on the NBC soap opera Days of our Lives, but only appeared in five episodes. Months later, she took over the role of Chelsea Brady (originally portrayed by Mandy Musgrave). She and her dog were seen on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, when she was randomly interviewed at a gas station for a segment. In 2010, Melvin starred as Kaia in Seven Deadly Sins which premiered on Lifetime alongside Dreama Walker. The first part premiered on May 23 while the second part premiered on May 24, 2010. In 2011, Melvin appeared in episodes of House M.D. and Castle. In 2014, Melvin appeared as Penny Pinchelow in Dumb and Dumber To, portrayed Mary in Zombeavers, and Sarah in the drama thriller film Madtown. She appeared in the final season of MTV's Awkward.
