Toru Furuya (古谷 徹 Furuya Tōru) is a veteran narrator and seiyū (voice actor) born on July 31, 1953 in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. As a child, he was a member of Gekidan Himawari, a children's acting troupe. He is currently employed by the talent management firm Aoni Production. Furuya is most known for the roles of Amuro Ray (both in the original Mobile Suit Gundam and its following Gundam sequels), Hyouma Hoshi (Kyojin no Hoshi), Pegasus Seiya (Saint Seiya), Yamcha (Dragon Ball Z), Kyosuke Kasuga (Kimagure Orange Road), and Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask (Sailor Moon). He is also the first and only seiyu who has provided a Japanese voice for Mario. He also used a pseudonym Noboru Sōgetsu (蒼月 昇 Sōgetsu Noboru) in the cast of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 for Ribbons Almark's role (but used his real name in the narration role). Both the narration role and Ribbons mark Furuya's first role in a non-Universal Century Gundam series. Shuichi Ikeda who played Char had his earlier with Gilbert Durandal in Gundam SEED Destiny. He was a best friend of the late Hirotaka Suzuoki and is noted to be friends with Ikeda. He was at one time married to fellow seiyuu Mami Koyama but amicably divorced in 1983. He later married seiyuu Satomi Majima, who was the other main character of Stop!! Hibari-kun!. Ace (One Piece). His debut voice role is a soldier in Brave Raideen. Toshio is a veteran who has played a variety of characters from comedians like Ataru of Urusei Yatsura and Inumaru of Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai!, to calm, serious ones like Shin from Fist of the North Star and Piccolo of the Dragon Ball series. Furthermore, Toshio is capable of performing with a "boy voice" and has played noble hot-blooded heroes such as Prince Mito of Saikyō Robo Daiōja and Kento Tate of Future Robo Daltanius. He performed in the band Slapstick (スラップスティック) with Toru Furuya, Kazuyuki Sogabe, Yūji Mitsuya and Akio Nojima. In 2007, Slapstick got together to pay tribute to former band members, Hirotaka Suzuoki and Kazuyuki Sogabe (guitar). Furukawa owns a pet dog named Asuma (遊馬), a Shih Tzu that was named after Asuma Shinohara of Patlabor. His former pet was Ataru (あたる), which was named after Ataru Moroboshi of Urusei Yatsura. Ataru died in 2008 at age fifteen and was also a Shih Tzu. Tribute pages were made for both pets.

He was previously affiliated by Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society, and was affiliated with Aoni Production at the time of his death. On January 27, 2014, while recording narration for a program in Hiroshima, Nagai suffered a bout of myocardial infarction and was found by a hotel employee. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead; Nagai was 82 years old at the time of his death.

His stage name was inspired by the Japanese director Kaneto Shindō. Shiozawa's career spanned from 1975 until his untimely death in 2000.
