Brett Hopper (Taye Diggs) nyomozót egy ügyészhelyettes meggyilkolásával vádolják. Atombiztos alibije semmit sem ér, ha valaki mindenképpen őt akarja rács mögött látni. Ezért Hopper futni kényszerül, de a rövid lélegzetvételt adó másnap sehogy sem jön el, mert ezentúl minden egyes reggel ugyanerre a napra ébres. Ez így mehet egészen addig, míg ki nem deríti, ki volt az ügyész valódi gyilkosa. Egyetlen előnye, hogy mindenre emlékszik, amit előzőleg már megpróbált - és nem jött be. A rossz húzások miatt begyűjtött sebek és zúzódások viszont nem múlnak el a napfelkeltével, így Brett Hopper szó szerint saját bőrén tanulja meg a leckét.
