A háziasszony Marta Walraven Észak-Kalifornia egyik kertvárosában éli gondtalan, hétköznapi életét. Kényelemes otthonában szerető férj és három remek gyermek veszi körül. Ám az idill tökéletes álcája mögött családi bűnszervezet rejtőzik. Marta apja, testvére és férje illegális üzletekkel keresik a kenyerüket. Amikor Marta férjét meggyilkolják, és az FBI megpróbálja az asszonyt besúgónak beszervezni, Márta élete megváltozik. Csak ő védheti meg családját a további rettegéstől és vérontástól. Meg kell küzdenie a gengszterekkel, de az FBI-jal is. Eddig maga sem tudta, milyen elképesztő elszántság, erő és leleményesség rejlik benne. Lassan fény derül az igazságra, férje halálának valódi körülményeire.
