1955-öt írunk. Toni húsz évesen egy év angliai tartózkodás után tér vissza a hazájába, Németországba. Bár családja és vőlegénye kész tervekkel várja, ő más jövőt képzel el magának. Apja, Gerd az egyik német titkosszolgálatnál dolgozik, és kérésére neki is szerez állást a szervezetnél.
