Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) egykori CIA-ügynök a világtól elvonultan él két kutyájával, éjszakáinak nyugalmát pedig inkontinenciás problémák, no meg a múlt szellemei bolygatják meg. Egy nap azonban ismeretlen ember bukkan fel a házikóban, az apóka látszatát keltő Chase-nél azonban rögtön aktivizálódnak a régi ösztönök, csak hát az a test már nem úgy funkcionál, mint régen. A már-már idegőrlővé fajuló pusztakezes harc Chase diadalmával zárul, de nincs semmi ok a nyugalomra: hősünk rögtön tudja, hogy megtalálták őt, és ismét mozgásba kell lendülnie.
