Joseph William Gilgun (born 9 March 1984) is an English actor known for several roles, including that of Vinnie O'Neill in the Sky One series Brassic, Eli Dingle in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, Jamie Armstrong in the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street, Woody in the film This Is England (2006) and its subsequent spin-off series, and Rudy Wade in E4's Misfits. From 2016 to 2019, he starred in the AMC television adaptation of the Vertigo comic Preacher as the Irish vampire Cassidy. West began his acting career in theater, appearing in productions of "Hamlet" and "Oedipus Rex." He made his film debut in 1995 with a small role in the film "The Boxer." West's breakthrough role came in 2002, when he was cast as Jimmy McNulty in the HBO series The Wire. The Wire is considered one of the greatest television shows of all time, and West's performance as McNulty was critically acclaimed. West has since starred in a number of other successful films and television shows, including "300," "The Hour," "The Affair," and "The Crown." He is a versatile actor who is equally comfortable in both dramatic and comedic roles. West is also a talented musician. He plays the guitar and piano, and he has released two albums of his own music.

She has also appeared as four different characters in six episodes of The Bill between 1989 and 2004. She has also appeared in five Mike Leigh films: in the female lead role of Shirley in High Hopes (1988); as Laughing Woman in Secrets & Lies (1996); as Maureen in All or Nothing (2002), as Lily in Vera Drake (2004) and as Gerri in Another Year (2010). In 2007, she played the role of Lyn, opposite Ben Whishaw's Steven, in the world premiere of Philip Ridley's stage play, Leaves of Glass at the Soho Theatre, London.
